Extra: Neighbors?

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
A beautiful day for a neighbor.
Would you be mine? Could you be mine?

Rumor has it that global superstar Taylor Swift just bought a home here in Northeast Ohio, not far from where I live.

I'm not sure if her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, is on the deed, and I wonder why he's her boyfriend and not her fiancé if they are looking at houses together. Call me old-fashioned.

The real estate rumors have been churning since earlier this summer, when the two were spotted lunching at a restaurant I frequent. I have even sent my food back there.

People were surprised to see Swift and Kelce in Chagrin Falls. They forget that he is from this area—Cleveland Heights, to be specific.

The national media, upon learning about Swift and Kelce’s house hunting, dissed Ohio, with Page Six lazily describing my home state as a McMansion hell.

Take a look at the photo of Swift’s new reputed mansion and tell me if you think it’s a McMansion. (Joe was just looking at the $17 million Hunting Valley property yesterday—not for us, but because he enjoys browsing real estate listings.)

As of January, Swift reportedly had an $80 million real estate portfolio, which has now increased by at least $17 million. So it's not like she and Kelce will be here exclusively.

I guess I am still, after all these years, impressed by celebrity.

But honestly, I am not very impressed by Taylor Swift’s music. I can only name one song, “Shake It Off,” and that’s it. I struggle to remember how it goes.

I know Swift has been around long enough to have had “eras,” and that her last tour was the “Eras” tour. My nieces went several times, as did people I know and respect.

And I know that she just announced a new album yesterday.

If we’re going to be neighbors, I will have to work on my Swift fandom. I hope she isn’t offended by my indifference.

If she is, she’ll just have to shake it off.

  1. Yuck. Def-o McMansion, but upscaled for people with more money than architectural sense. No shortage of those in Hunting Valley. But hey, it’s not my place to say how the uber-rich should spend their (hard-earned?) cash.

  3. I’m curious to know the general area in HV, Peter. The town has changed since my childhood, but a recent visit reminded me that it’s still a lovely place. The guy who bought our family home next to US provided it to the HVFD, who burned it down for practice. Deshawn Watson lives on our old driveway. 😳

  4. My guess is either County Line or South Woodland.
